Aquatic, scapose perennials, the scapes 0.5-3 dm. tall, often exceeded by the leaves.
Distribution: East of the Cascades in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to Minnesota and Wisconsin
Habitat: Marshy areas, often in standing water.

Alisma triviale   (European water-plantain)  
(= Alisma plantago-aquatica var. plantago-aquatica in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Aquatic, scapose perennials, the scapes up to 12 dm. tall, longer than the leaves.
Distribution: Widely distributed throughout Washington; Alaska south to California, east across northern half of North America to Newfoundland.
Habitat: Streams, lakes, ponds, wet ditches, wetlands, and cattle ponds.

Damasonium californicum   (fringed water-plantain, star water-plantain, California damsonium)  
(= Machaerocarpus californicus in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Aquatic, herbaceous, scapose perennials 2-4 dm. tall from a rhizome, the leaves about equaling the inflorescence.
Distribution: Known only from Klickitat County in Washington; Washington south to California, east to southwest Idaho and western Navada.
Habitat: Sloughs, ditches and marshy fields.

Sagittaria cuneata   (arumleaf arrowhead)

Aquatic, scapose, tuber-bearing perennial from strong rhizomes, the scapes up to 5 dm. long.
Distribution: East of the Cascades in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to New York.
Habitat: Ponds, lake shores and ditches.

Sagittaria graminea   (grassy arrowhead)

Aquatic, scapose, perennial herbs from coarse rhizomes, without stolons, the scapes to 100 cm. tall.
Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades in Washington; primary distribution is east of the Mississippi River.
Habitat: Wetlands, ponds, and lakes

Sagittaria latifolia   (broadleaf arrowhead, common arrowhead, wapato, duck potato)  
(= Sagittaria latifolia in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Aquatic, scapose, tuber-bearing perennials from strong rhizomes, the scapes up to 5 dm. long.
Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades in Washington; Vancouver Island, British Columbia south to central California; primary distribution in central and eastern North America.
Habitat: Ditches, ponds, lakes, swampy areas.

Sagittaria platyphylla   (delta arrowhead)  
(taxon is not treated in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Aquatic, scapose, perennial herbs, without rhizomes, stolons present, the scapes to 150 cm. tall.
Distribution: Known from the Puget Sound lowlands in Washington; south-central U.S., and in scattered locations in central and northeastern U.S.
Habitat: Pond and lake margins.

Sagittaria rigida   (arrowhead, sessilefruit)  
(taxon is not treated in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Distribution: Occurring in lowland areas west of the Cascades crest in Washington; California; central U.S. and southern Canada east to northeastern U.S. and Canada; scattered locations elsewhere in U.S. and Canada.
Habitat: Pond and lake margins.
