Perennial, glabrous, fleshy herbs from thick, shallow rhizomes, the stems prostrate and the floral branches ascending.
Distribution: Widely distributed throughout Washington on both sides of the Cascades; Alaska south to California, east across Canada and the northern half of the United States.
Habitat: Bogs, marshes and ponds, low to mid-elevations in the mountains

Nymphoides peltata   (yellow floatingheart)  
(taxon is not treated in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Glabrous aquatic perennial.
Distribution: Introduced as an ornamental, occasionally escaping in the Pacific Northswest.
Habitat: Ponds or sluggish streams.
