Morella californica   (Pacific bayberry)  
Monoecious, evergreen shrub 2-6 m. tall, the young growth pubescent and finely wax-dotted, ultimately glabrous.
Distribution: Along the southern half of the outer coast in Washington; British Columbia south to California.
Habitat: Sandy, moist areas.

Myrica gale   (sweetgale)  
Deciduous, dioecious shrubs 0.5-1.5 m. tall, the new growth finely pubescent, becoming glabrous with age.
Distribution: West of the Cascades in Washington; Alaska south to Oregon, east across northern Canada, upper Midwest, and northeastern U.S.
Habitat: Coastal bogs, swamps, lakes and streams.
