Slender, erect, glabrous annual, the simple or moderately-branched stem 5-20 cm. tall.
Distribution: Chiefly east of the Cascade summits in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Colorado.
Habitat: Moist to rather dry areas, foothills to high elevations in the mountains.

Perennial herbs from creeping rhizomes, the numerous, erect stems 2-8 dm. tall, short-bearded just below the nodes, otherwise glabrous or slightly roughened.
Distribution: Widely distributed on both sides of the Cascades in Washington; circumboreal; in North America extending south to California, Texas and West Virginia.
Habitat: In a variety of mesic habitats, from sea level to timber line.

Perennial herbs from slender, creeping rhizomes, the stems arising singly, erect, 1-2 dm. tall, glabrous.
Distribution: Chiefly west of the Cascades in Washington; Alaska south to Washington, east to eastern North America.
Habitat: Moist, cold coniferous woods.

Perennial herb from a rhizome, the numerous stems weak, reclining to erect from a decumbent base, 3-12 dm. tall, usually glabrous; short, ascending, leafy, perennial shoots produced from the base in summer and fall.
Distribution: Scattered locations in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to Montana and Wyoming; widely distributed in east of the Mississippi River.
Habitat: Occurring in disturbed soil, waste ground.

Galium odoratum   (sweet-scented bedstraw)

Vanilla-scented, rhizomatous perennial, the stems 1.5-5 dm. tall, glabrous except for retrorse, sharp hairs at the nodes.
Distribution: Occurring in a few scattered locations west of the Cascades in Washington; British Columbia south to Oregon; scattered areas of central and eastern North America.
Habitat: Woodlands at low elevations.

Galium oreganum   (Oregon bedstraw)

Perennial herbs from slender, creeping rhizomes, the stems arising singly, erect, 1-4 dm. tall, glabrous.
Distribution: From the Cascade Mountains west in Washington; Washington south to Oregon.
Habitat: Moist woods and meadows, from sea level to 5000 feet in the mountains.

Galium parisiense   (wall bedstraw)

Perennial herbs from creeping, somewhat woody rhizomes, the stems several and freely-branching, often woody below, up to 4 dm. tall; herbage glabrous to densely covered with fine, stiff, sharp-pointed hairs. The long, white bristles on the fruits are unique to this species in our area.
Distribution: East of the Cascades in Washington; Washington south to California, east to central Idaho.
Habitat: Dry, open, rocky slopes from fairly low to moderate elevations in the mountains.

Galium trifidum   (three-petal bedstraw, small bedstraw)

Perennial herbs from slender, creeping rhizomes, the numerous, branched stems 0.5-6 dm. long, slender, weak and scrambling on other vegetation, the square stems glabrous or scabrous on the angles.
Distribution: Widely distributed on both sides of the Cascades in Washington; circumboreal; widely distributed throughout North America.
Habitat: Moist places, from sea level to high elevations in the mountains.

Galium triflorum   (fragrant bedstraw, three-flowered bedstraw)

Perennial herbs from creeping rhizomes, the stems 2-8 dm. long, prostrate to ascending or scrambling on other vegetation, usually hooked-scabrous at least below on the edges of the square stem.
Distribution: Widely distributed on both sides of the Cascades in Washington; circumboreal; widely distributed throughout North America.
Habitat: Moist woods, from sea level to moderate elevations in the mountains.

Galium verum   (yellow spring bedstraw, lady's bedstraw)  
(= Galium verum in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Perennial herbs from rhizomes, with numerous, erect, unbranched stems 3-12 dm. tall, densely puberulent at least in the inflorescence, with short, leafy offshoots growing from the base later in the season.
Distribution: In scattered localities west of the Cascades in Washington; widely distributed throughout North America in except along southern border of U.S.
Habitat: Escaping from cultivation to lawns, roadsides, and other open, disturbed areas.
