Small, woolly, monoecious annuals, usually prostrate and branching, the stems up to 10 cm. long.
Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to the Rocky Mountains.
Habitat: Dried beds of vernal pools.

Psilocarphus elatior   (meadow woollyheads, tall woollyheads)

Small, silky-woolly, monoecious annuals, varying from erect, branched plants to 15 cm. tall to plants with a single head only 1 cm. tall.

Habitat: Dried beds of vernal pools and other open, moist places.

Slender annual, the much-branched stem up to 15 cm. long, becoming prostrate, often matted; herbage closely silvery-woolly.
Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades in Washington; Washington south to California, east to Idaho and Nevada.
Habitat: Dried beds of vernal pools.

Psilocarphus tenellus   (slender woollyheads)  
(= Psilocarphus tenellus in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Small annuals, the plants greenish to grayish, silky to spider-webby, the stems 2-10, prostrate to ascending.
Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to Idaho.
Habitat: Dry or seasonally moist barren or wooded slopes or flats, often on disturbed sites.
