Vinca major   (greater periwinkle, bigleaf periwinkle)  
(= Vinca major in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Glabrous, perennial herbs with milky juice, the branches 1-3 dm. long, often trailing and rooting.
Distribution: Occasionally escapes from gardens, west side of the Cascades.
Habitat: Moderately moist soil.

Vinca minor   (common periwinkle, lesser periwinkle)  
(taxon is not treated in Flora of the Pacific Northwest)
Perennial herbs with milky juice, the stems more or less prostrate, rooting, nearly glabrous.
Distribution: Introduced in scattered locations across Washington, moreso in western lowlands; occurring in much of eastern North America, where it is considered invasive.
Habitat: Somewhat moist disturbed areas.
