Origin: Introduced from Europe
Distribution: Introduced and occasionallhy escaping, but marginally persistant; uncommon in the Pacific Northwest.
Habitat: Disturbed areas.
Species Description:
General: Glabrous annual, the stem simple or branched above, 2-6 dm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves alternate, bipinnately dissected into narrow, linear segments, the lower leaves petiolate.
Flowers: Flowers showy, regular, single on naked peduncles; sepals 5, greenish, rounded; petals 5-10, white to red with a bluish base, narrowly oblong-oblanceolate, about twice the length of the sepals, sub-erect; stamens blue, numerous; pistils numerous.
Fruits: Achene hardened and rough, with a short, straight beak.
