Conservation Status: Abundant; of no concern.

Distribution: Both sides of the Cascades in Washington; Alaska to California, east to Wyoming and New Mexico.
Habitat: Mid- to high elevations in the mountains.
Species Description:

General: Scapose, usually glabrous perennial, 1-6 dm. tall, with milky juice.
Leaves: Leaves all basal, 5-35 cm. long and 1-30 mm. wide, rounded to pointed, entire, or with a few divergent teeth or lobes.
Flowers: Head solitary on the scape; involucral bracts sub-equal, narrow and pointed; corollas all ligulate, burnt orange.
Fruits: Achene body 5-9 mm. long, 10-nerved, abruptly narrowed to a slender beak, which is half as long to longer than the body.
