Origin: Native
Conservation Status: Abundant; of no concern.
Distribution: Chiefly west of the Cascades in Washington, but also in scattered localities east of the Cascades crest; Alaska to California, east across Montana and North Dakota, and most of the United states east of the Mississipps River.
Habitat: Swamps and bogs, lowlands to mid-elevations in the mountains.
Species Description:
General: Bog-loving, scapose, perennial herbs, the scapes to 25 cm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves all basal, spreading, the blades glandular-viscid, rotund to obovate, 6-12 mm. long and at least as broad, on stout petioles 2-9 cm. long.
Flowers: Inflorescence of 1-2, somewhat 1-sided, 3- to 10-flowered racemes; calyx deeply 5-lobed, the lobes ovate-oblong; petals 5, white, oblong, longer than the calyx; stamens 5, slightly shorter than the petals; styles 3, bifid nearly to the base.
Fruits: Capsule 1-celled.
