Distribution: Oregon and California, occasional in estern Washington
Habitat: Margins of vernal pools and ponds.
Species Description:
General: Tufted annual, the numerous stems 0.8-3.5 cm. tall and over 0.2 mm. in diameter.
Leaves: Leaves to 2.2 cm. long, ½ to ¾ the height of the plant; leaf bases sheathing.
Flowers: Inflorescence terminal, with solitary flowers; tiny, membranous bract subtending the flower; perianth 0.6-0.9 mm. long, the 6 segments subequal, erect, greenish or tinged with red; stamens usually 3, the anthers 1/3 the length of the filaments.
Fruits: Capsule ovoid to ellipsoid, reddish to maroon, slightly shorter than the tepals.
