Conservation Status: Abundant; of no concern.
Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia south to California, east to Idaho and Montana.
Habitat: Open gravelly or rocky slopes and rock crevices at mid- to high elevations in the mountains.
Species Description:
General: Succulent perennial from a large, branched, fleshy root, the several flowering stems 10-30 cm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves all basal, numerous, linear-oblanceolate to narrowly spatulate, 2-10 cm. long and 3-8 mm. wide; stems with several entire to glandular-dentate bracts.
Flowers: Inflorescence a many-flowered panicle with glandular-dentate bracts; sepals 2, glandular-dentate, 1.5-2 mm. long, persistent; petals 7-9, from nearly white with pink venation to magenta-rose, 5-13 mm. long; stamens 5-6; style 1, with 3-8 elongate stigmas.
Fruits: Capsule about twice the length of the sepals.
