Origin: Introduced from Europe
Distribution: Occurring throughout Washington, but most common west of the Cascades; Alaska south to California and Utah, and from central plains of U.S. to Labrador.
Habitat: Moist areas, lawns and gardens, disturbed forest understory.
Species Description:

General: Stiff-hairy perennial from fibrous roots, the several stems decumbent, rooting at the nodes, up to 10 dm. long.
Leaves: Basal leaves long-petiolate, deltoid in outline, 3-7 cm. long, bi-ternately compound, the segments toothed; cauline leaves alternate, petiolate, reduced upward to simple bracts.
Flowers: Pedicels single-flowered, up to 15 cm. long; sepals 5, spreading, greenish, 5-7 mm. long, hairy, pointed, early-deciduous; petals 5 or more, yellow, 7-17 mm. long; nectary scale obovate, glabrous, the lateral margins free for ¾ their length; receptacle ovoid, hairy, up to 4 mm. long; stamens 30-80; pistils 20-50.
Fruits: Achenes obovate, 2-3 mm. long, smooth, strongly compressed; stylar beak 0.7-1.2 mm. long, strongly recurved.
