Distribution: Western United States.
Species Description:
General: Herbaceous perennials from woody rhizomes, forming loose mats, the flowering stems leafless, 6-25 cm. tall, erect, with stalked glands.
Leaves: Leaves in a basal rosette, petiolate, the petiole jointed at point of attachment to blade, separating early; leaf blade broadly ovate, palmately veined, not lobed, the base wedge-shaped, with coarse teeth on the upper edges, nearly glabrous; cauline leaves reduced to 1-2 sessile bracts.
Flowers: Inflorescence a terminal, elongate, compact, compound panicle with 27-90 flowers, bracteate; calyx attached to ovary about half way, the 5 lobes green; petals 5, white, unlobed; stamens 10; carpels 2, fused about ¼ their length.
Fruits: Carpels with 2 beaks.
