Distribution: Widely distributed across Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Montana and New Mexico.
Habitat: Vernally wet areas and marshes, near sea level to mid-elevations in the mountains.
Species Description:

General: Tufted perennial herbs, the stems glabrous, simple, usually flattened and winged, 1-2.5 mm. wide and 1.5-4.5 dm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves mostly basal, glabrous, narrowly linear, up to 3 dm. long.
Flowers: Flowers usually 2-5 in an umbel, subtended by a pair of green bracts, the outer 15-45 mm. long, 13-16 mm. longer than the inner, united at the base, tapering evenly to the pointed apex; tepals 6, 8-20 mm. long, light to deep bluish-violet, with a yellow center, oblong, truncate to slightly notched, but usually with a short bristle; stamens 3, the filaments fused to near the tip; ovary inferior.
Fruits: : Capsule 3-celled, nearly globose, 3-6 mm. long, beige to light or dark brown.
