Conservation Status: Abundant; of no concern.

Distribution: Both sides of the Cascades in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon, east to Montana and south in the Rockies to Arizona.
Habitat: Mid- to high elevations in the mountains.
Species Description:

General: Deciduous shrubs 1-2 m. tall.
Leaves: Leaves opposite, short-petiolate, elliptic to oblong, broadly rounded, 2-8 cm. long and 1-4 cm. wide, glabrous above and glabrous or stiff-hairy beneath.
Flowers: Peduncles axillary, 5-15 cm. long, elongating in fruit, with a pair of minute bracts at the summit; flowers paired; corolla light yellow or ochroleucous, 1-2 cm. long, slightly two-lipped, the lobes much shorter than the tube, which is hairy within and has a short, thick spur at the base; stamens 5, glabrous; ovary 2-celled, inferior,
Fruits: Fruit a bright red berry, nearly 1 cm. thick.
