Habitat: Moist to dry, shaded to open woods, meadows and rocky slopes in the mountains
Species Description:

General: Low perennial from slender rhizomes, forming patches with both sterile and flowering stems; stems branched, erect to decumbent, 5-15 cm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves numerous, linear-elliptic to lanceolate, pointed, 2-5 cm, long and 3-15 mm. wide.
Flowers: Flowers 2-5 in an open, terminal inflorescence; pedicels slender, up to 3 cm. long; sepals 5, 3-6 mm. long, ovate-lanceolate, pointed; petals 5, white, usually longer than the sepals; stamens 10; styles 3.
Fruits: Capsule globose-ovoid, shorter than the calyx, opening by 6 valves.
