Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest and in the Columbia River Gorge in Washington; Washington to California, east to Nevada.

Stout, rhizomatous perennial, the stem 5-15 dm. tall.
Leaves alternate, lanceolate to elliptic, entire or with a few coarse teeth or lobes, 7-15 cm. long and 1-5 cm. wide, green above and white-woolly beneath.
Inflorescence a large, terminal panicle; involucre 3-4 mm. high, somewhat white-woolly; corollas all tubular, pale yellow, the outer 6-10 pistillate, the inner 10-25 perfect; receptacle naked; pappus none.
