Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska o California, east to the Rocky Mountains, and east along the northern U.S. and southern Canada to the Atlantic Coast.

Habitat: Open areas in the forest from middle elevations to the subalpine.

Flowers: May-July

Description:
General:

Short-lived perennial from a simple crown, the stems 1-several, erect, usually simple, 3-8 dm. tall, usually glabrous throughout.

Leaves:

Basal leaves numerous in a rosette, oblanceolate to elliptic, entire, 2-7 cm. long and 3-15 mm. wide, the blade narrowed to a slender petiole; cauline leaves numerous, overlapping, sessile and auriculate, narrowly oblong-lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, 1.5-3 cm. long and 3-15 mm. wide.

Flowers:

: Inflorescence of 5- to 50-flowered, terminal racemes; pedicles 7-20 mm. long; sepals 4, 3-4.5 mm. long, the outer ones slightly gibbous at the base; petals 4, 7-12 mm. long, white to pale pink; stamens 6; style lacking.

Fruits:

Siliques strictly erect, glabrous, strongly compressed, 3-9 cm. long and 2-3 mm. broad; seeds in 2 series, 2 mm. long, winged.
