Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska to Oregon.

Habitat: Moist forests and stream banks at mid- to high elevations in the mountains.

Leaves alternate, pale green, thin, deciduous, somewhat glaucous, oblanceolate, tipped with a sharp point, entire, 2-5 cm. long, nearly sessile.

Flowers single and terminal on short, axillary, leafy shoots; sepals nearly distinct, the 5 lobes linear-lanceolate, 7-10 mm. long; corolla rotate, the 5 petals distinct, oblong-elliptic, 10-15 mm. long, salmon or copper colored; stamens 10, the anthers without awns; style 1 cm. long, recurved; ovary superior.

Capsule 5-valved, nearly globose, 4-7 mm. broad.
