Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in eastern and southeastern Washington; southeastern Washington to adjacent Oregon, east to northeast Idaho.

Glabrous, glaucous perennials from a simple crown, the stems usually single, 5-15 dm. tall.

Basal leaves obovate to spatulate-oblanceolate, 20-45 cm. long and 5-12 cm. broad, thin, acute; cauline leaves in whorls of 3 or 4, lanceolate, acuminate.

Inflorescence narow, congested, the branches erect; calyx lobes 4, 5-13 mm. long, lanceolate, acuminate; corolla deeply 4-lobed, broadly tubular, pale to dark blue, with fringed processes at the base of each lobe, and a shallow, orbicular pit just above them; stamens 4, distinct; style 1 mm. long.

Capsule ovoid, 12-18 mm. long.
