Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia south to southern California and New Mexico.
Habitat: Mostly in partial shade, from the lowlands to well up in the mountains.

Perennial, stems erect, 1.5-9 dm, soft-hairy.
Leaves 4.5-11.5 cm broad, palmately divided nearly to base into 5-7 segments, segments rhombic, blade round in outline, somewhat hairy.
Inflorescence 2-flowered; flowers radial, on pedicels 15-30 mm; sepals 7-8 mm, not ridged, bristle-tipped; petals 14-20 mm, rounded, white to light pink with purple veins, upper surface hairy towards base; nectary glands hairy beneath; stylar column 14-19 mm, stigmas 3-4 mm.
Mericarps 5, 3.5-4 mm, smooth, sparsely hairy; seeds deeply pitted.
