Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska to California, east across most of North America to the Atlantic Coast.
Habitat: Weed in distrurbed areas, fields, lawns.

Annual herb with basally branching stems to about 40 cm tall.
Opposite, simple, cordate with coarse teeth; lower leaves with petioles, upper leaves sessile.
Pink to purple, tubular, to 18 mm long with 5 irregular lobes at tip; in clusters in upper leaf axils
4 small nutlets per flower.
Look for the square stems, opposite leaves that become sessile above, and pinkish-purple flowers in small clusters in upper leaf axils. See also Lamium purpureum.
