Small, perennial herbs with a simple stem 10-35 cm. tall, glabrous below the leaves and strongly glandular-pubescent above.

Leaves 2, opposite, attached well above mid-length on the stem, lanceolate to ovate, 2.5-6 cm. long, rounded to abruptly acute.

Inflorescence a terminal, bracteate, open, 5- to 25-flowered raceme, the bracts conspicuous, 3-8 mm. long; pedicles very slender, 5-10 mm. long; sepals 3, spreading, narrowly lanceolate, 3-4 mm. long, 1-nerved; 2 small petals narrower than the sepals, spreading; third petal (lip) obovate with a wedge-shaped base, 4.5-7.5 mm. long, angled downward, rounded to truncate, with a erect, filiform tooth 1 mm. long just above the base on both sides; stamens and style fused to form a column about 2 mm. long.
