Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon.

Habitat: Lowlands, prairies and coastal bluffs.

Flowers: April-July

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Annual from a taproot, the several stems erect to decumbent, 1-2.5 dm. tall, glandular-puberulent at least above.

Leaves:

Leaves opposite, linear but tapering, 3-nerved, 3-18 mm. long, the primary ones with bundles of secondary leaves or short branches in their axils.

Flowers:

Flowers many in an open, diffuse inflorescence that is often over half the length of the plant; pedicels very slender, up to 25 mm. long; sepals 5, lanceolate, pointed, 3-nerved, 2.5-3.5 mm. long; petals 5, white, broadly obovate, up to 11/2 times as long as the sepals; stamens 10; styles 3.

Fruits:

Capsule ovoid, longer than the sepals, opening by 3 valves.
