Distribution: Occurring in scattered locations on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Idaho and Utah, also from Great Plains to eastern North America.
Habitat: Roadsides, open forests, fields, wastelots, and other disturbed areas at low elevation.

Scapose, perennial herbs 20-30 cm. tall, from ovoid bulbs 1-2 cm. long and 1-2.5 cm. wide, with numerous bulblets, the outer layer of the bulbs papery, white to pale brown.
Leaves 4-6, all basal, 20-30 cm. long by 3-5 cm. wide, with a white stripe on the upper side.
Scapes 1-3 dm. tall, the inflorescence flat-topped, 8- to 20-flowered; flowers erect; tepals 6, white, with a wide, green stripe on the lower surface, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 15-22 mm. long and 7-8 mm. wide; outer 3 stamens 5-7 mm. long, inner 3 slightly longer; ovary superior, green; style 3-4 mm. long.
Capsule oblong-ovoid, strongly 6-angled, 5-6 mm. long.
