Distribution: Widely distributed on both sides of the Cascades in Washington; circumboreal, in America extending south to southwest Oregon, east to Montana and New York.
Habitat: Bogs and wet soil in the mountains.

Leaves all basal, succulent, short-petiolate, broadly oblanceolate to sub-elliptic, 2-5 cm. long and 7-18 mm. wide, slimy on the upper surface.
Flowers solitary on the ends of bractless scapes; calyx 5-lobed, 3 mm. long, the lobes partly united into an upper lip of 3 and lower lip of 2; corolla lavender-purple to nearly white, 1.5-2.5 cm. long including the spur, bilabiate, the upper lip 2-lobed, the lower lip 3-lobed and prolonged into a slender spur 5-9 mm. long, with flaring throat and broad, rounded lobes; stamens 2, ovary superior.
