WTU's Sarah Gage, with assistance from NOCA's Mignonne Bivin and Steve Hahn, led a trip during August 9-11 to the vicinity of Cascade Pass. Alpine habitats were the focus of this trip. Using Mineral Park Campground as the base of operations, small groups were sent to locations at and around Casdacde Pass included Sahale Arm, and Boston, Horseshoe, and Pelton Basins. Most locations required backpacking in and camping overnight. Additional collections were made along the road leading up to the Cascade Pass trailhead.
During the three day trip 319 collections were made, totaling 778 specimens and representing 172 taxa. All specimens from the trip were identified at WTU in fall 2002/winter 2003, with assistance provided by a Graduate Research Assistantship funded by North Cascades National Park.
Volunteers from WTU included Alison Colwell, Amy Dearborn, Andreas Tribsch, Barb Smith, Ben Legler, Dena Grossenbacher, Diane Hennessey, Don Knoke, Gerald Schneeweiss, Hanna Weiss, Kimiora Ward, Nancy Job, and Peter Schonswetter.
Additional participating NOCA staff included Becca, Kelly O'Neil, Laura, and Todd Neuberger.
