Rennie Pass, located in a remote area in the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in the far southeastern corner of the North Cascades National Park Complex, was visited in late July of 2005. WTU's Sarah Gage and NOCA's Steve Hahn led a group of 8 volunteers on a 4 day, 3 night backpacking trip up the arduous 6.6 mile long Rennie Pass Trail, to collect in the extensive and beautiful subalpine basins and high ridgelines around the pass.
A total of 193 collections were made, comprising 425 individual specimens and 153 distinct taxa. 28 of those taxa were new park records for the NOCA park herbarium, a full 18% of the taxa collected on the trip.
In addition to Sarah Gage and Steve Hahn, participating NOCA staff included Dorothy Wallace-Senft.
Participating volunteers included Laura Potash, Maria Gerace, Rich Gwodz, and Peter Zika, with Student Conservation Associates Lindsey Hamilton and Emily Sloane. Two additional SCA volunteers helped haul presses out at trip's end.
