About the Checklist

Goals and Justification

Our objective is to prepare a synonymized checklist of vascular plants for the state of Washington which is useful to both amateur and professional botanists. An important component of the effort will be to document changes in applicable names and addition of taxa that are not included in Hitchcock and Cronquist, 1973 or 1976 or Hitchcock et al. 1955-1969. The checklist, while having considerable utility in its own right, is expected to provide an essential basis for an eventual updated taxonomic treatment of the flora of Washington.
