Background: Agate Pond Preserve, owned by Tricia Otto, is a 100 acre preserve on Agate Creek and Squalicum Mountain 10 miles from Bellingham. It includes a second growth Douglas-fir forest, two naturalized ponds, and a four acre wetland created by beavers on the creek. For over 30 years, local native plants have been introduced and naturalized, particularly in the new beaver wetland. There is also a one acre Midwest tall grass prairie planting honoring Tricia’s mother Lorrie Otto and her conservation work in Wisconsin.
