Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California.
Habitat: Bluffs, beaches, rocky areas, and riverbanks, especially near the coast.

Stout perennial from a short, stout rhizome, the stems clustered, 5-15 dm. tall.
Leaves broadly lanceolate to elliptic, entire, or with a few teeth or lobes, 8-15 cm. long and 1.5-5 cm. wide, white-woolly beneath and green and glabrous above.
Heads very numerous in a dense, ample, paniculiform inflorescence; involucre 3-4 mm. high, glabrous, yellow-green and shining, very narrow and few-flowered; corollas all tubular, yellowish, fertile, the outer ones pistillate, 3-7, the inner perfect, 2-3; receptacle naked; pappus none.
