Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east across most of North America to the Atlantic Coast.

Habitat: Woodlands and waste places, tending to be weedy.

Flowers: April-July

Description:
General:

Pubescent annual, the stems 1.5-5 dm. tall, usually erect.

Leaves:

Leaves petiolate, the blades cordate-rotund, 2-5 cm. broad, palmately divided nearly to the base into 5 wedge-shaped divisions, these cleft 1/3-1/2 their length into linear segments.

Flowers:

Inflorescence a congested cyme, with the peduncles and pedicels no longer than the calyx; sepals 5, 4-8 mm. long, 3-nerved, with a bristle-tip 1-1.5 mm. long; petals 5, rounded or slightly notched, pink or rose; fertile stamens 10, the filaments free to the base; stylar column 1.5-2 cm, stigmas 0.7-1.4 mm.

Fruits:

Mericarps 5, 3-4.5 mm, densely hairy; seeds finely net-veined.
