Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska south to California, east to the Rocky Mountains of Canada and the U.S.

Habitat: Wet meadows and moist woods, especially along streams, lowlands to mid-elevations in the mountains.

Flowers: June-August

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Slender herbaceous perennial from rhizomes, occasionally with stolons, the stems nearly leafless, 2-3 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves mostly basal, long-petiolate, the blades ovate-cordate, 2-5 cm. broad and somewhat longer, shallowly and indistinctly 5- to 9-lobed, the lobes with short, rounded teeth; stem occasionally has 1-2 membranous bracts.

Flowers:

Inflorescence elongate, racemose or somewhat paniculate, blossoming upwards, 6-25 flowered; pedicels 3-7 mm. long; calyx saucer-shaped, 2-3 mm. broad, the 5 lobes triangular; petals 5, greenish, pinnately divided into 8 filiform, often paired segments; stamens 5, opposite the petals.

Fruit:

Ovary almost completely inferior; carpels 2.
